CINNAMON, created by Joëlle Bourjolly, is a family drama that explores how secrets and shame hold so much power they can lead down a path of self-destruction.
Having fled the brutal dictatorship of François “Papa Doc” Duvalier and resettled in a wealthy Montréal suburb, the Malveauxs are facing a crossroads: Do they stay in Canada now that Papa Doc is dead? Or return to Haïti and their life of privilege?
CINNAMON probes the themes of family, shame, and nationalism—all intricately wrapped in Catholic guilt.
At its core, the series is about two warring factions: On one side, there are the Traditionalists, who want to return to Haïti; and on the other, the Social Climbers, who want to stay. If either side gets what it wants, the family falls apart. While each individual hides a different secret, their common fear is having their deep, personal truths exposed.
